Day 3 - These Feet Were Made For Walking
Metro: Now that its Day 3.. we're starting to like the Metro. It's been relatively easy to use. Too bad we don't have a great transit system like this back home. I mean literally.. we'll get to the metro stop and maybe wait a couple of seconds for the train to come and whisk us away to our destination.
We went from Paral.lel to Lesseps in like 7 stops..which felt like 15 minutes. So easy!! And then we walked up the hill to get to Parc Guell. D who was so psyched to see it after seeing La Predera wasn't as impressed here. And paying the entrance fee to see Gaudi's apartment while in Parc Guell wasn't worth it. Interesting..but easily skipped.
And since it was in the neighborhood, we went to Casa Vicens. Amazing enough... we decided to walk down the main street. Along the way... we saw people with BAGS of candy walking around. And then we saw hundreds of candy wrappers all around. Later on I found out that today was San Medir Day...which is day of remembrance to a Christian martyr.
Apparently, every March 3, candy is thrown from cars weaving their way through the narrow streets. Children and adults alike form crowds throughout the entire quarter. The tradition began in 1828. A aging baker from Gracia begged Sant Medir (who had been dead for 500 years) to restore his youthful health and vigor. When the miracle happened the grateful baker made the obligatory pilgrimage to the saint’s shrine, and along the way he gave candy to everyone he found.

D and I then jumped on the metro and grabbed lunch before heading up to Monjuic where the Olympic '92 Stadium and a few other sites are located. Again, we decided to walk back to our hotel...and now both our feets are killing us!!!
I think it'll be an easy day tomorrow.
