Lent Season
This is a bit late but whatever...
Mardi Gras was last Tuesday (no partying for me.. since I was busy at work. boo.) and it was followed by Ash Wednesday and the kick off of Lent Season.
Traditionally, Lent is a forty-day season of preparation for Easter. Why 40 days? Because, Jesus fasted and was tempted in the wilderness for 40 days. Lent is the time of fasting, prayer, temptation and repentance. Lent is not required anywhere in scriptures, but it has been a custom. The focus of Lent is a time to prepare new converts for baptism through intensive classes and instruction, a time to review a person's life and renew their commitment to Jesus Christ, a time for backsliders to be restored to the faith. Put simply, Lent is a time to examine ourselves carefully.
I'm no hardcore Catholic. And I don't do the usual deep down introspection. But, yet again.. while driving.. I was thinking to sacrifice something for at least 40 days kinda makes me grateful for having it more at the end of the 40 days. In some ways, I find that I'm lucky than most. And I should thank my lucky stars.
So.. what am I giving up this year? Even though I should have started this last week... it's hard to find something that I enjoy and willing to give up. I don't have many guilty lil pleasures. I was thinking about giving up meat except for seafood. But, I realized I eat alot of meat. *smile* SO! I think french fries.. which is VERY difficult for me cuz I love all things potatoes.. potato chips, french fries, baked potatoes. But, I'm allowing myself those other forms of potatoes.. just giving up the fried version for this time.
Sidenote: I've been watching MTV for the last couple of hours and they keep repeating the same damn videos. It's gotten to the point where I can PREDICT what the next video will be. Terrible.
