Dim Sum

Met up with Pete and Carrie before they flew back to Maryland. I love these two ppl.

I thought it would be a great idea to take them to a dim sum place. One problem: I don't know the Irvine/Costa Mesa/Santa Ana area at all. I had to call up a few ppl who either like to eat or are from that area... Nga, Khe, Sonny, Nettie, Lisa. Lisa and Khe mentioned a place called Russell's Seafood Palace (1818 Main St, Irvine CA). Nettie didn't know a restaurant name but said 'just go to Walnut and Jeffrey...next to the 99 Ranch Market'. Sonny only knew of a place in Santa Ana. Nga didn't know of any place.

Russell's was the closest to the John Wayne airport... so, we checked that place out first. It's 10am and the freakin' place is deserted. huh? what kind of dim sum place IS this?!

Plan B. We went over to Walnut and Jeffrey... the S.W. BBQ Restaurant that was next to the 99 Ranch Market wasn't going to open until 11am ...at this point, we're all HUNGRY and couldn't wait an hour!! So! We just ended up at some lil dive place called New Shanghai Restaurant (5408 Walnut Ave, Irvine CA).

It was one of those restaurants that had dim sum minus the ppl pushing the carts around...which THAT was the kind of restaurant I wanted to take Pete and Carrie. Oh well. The food was very good. The service could have been a lot better... especially when I had asked to keep one of the menus in case I wanted to order more but the waiter said straight out 'mmm.. no' and then walked away with the menus. The mysterious poop smell that came from nowhere also had to go.
