"Annyong haseyo"

I went to the cleaners that Thao suggested to hem my pants. I was hoping it wasn't going to be Vietnamese owned... I always feel like I'll get judged by other Vietnamese ppl if I don't speak it or I butcher the language. It turned out to be Korean owned. whew.

After getting the pants pinned, one of the ladies gives me a receipt and then asks if I was Filipino. I said 'No, i'm Vietnamese'. And even though I knew they were Korean, I didn't want to assume either... so I ask 'Are you Korean?' ...which she replies 'Yes'.

AH HA! So, I whip out the only Korean word I know confidently "Annyong haseyo" (which translates to either 'hello' or 'goodbye'). They acknowledge it and smile.

I was going to ask how to say 'Thank you' in Korean....but I'll save that question for another day.

(Found a very thorough site of 'Hellos' in different language: http://www.elite.net/~runner/jennifers/hello.htm)
